Screenplay competitions are one of the most popular ways for budding writers to break into Hollywood, but one competition has found itself on the wrong side of the AI debate.
He started Scriptpalooza, a screenplay contest company, and then quickly shut down the Artificial Intelligence Screenplay contest after complaints from writers.
The writers are currently on strike with AI Protection as their key demand for the studios. Additionally, SAG-AFTRA is in the midst of extended negotiations with AMPTP, again with AI as one of the key talking points.
The company has sent out its artificial intelligence screenplay competition plan to writers.

The idea was for writers to submit the first 25 pages of a script and then receive AI-generated feedback.
“The first judging was done by artificial intelligence. [stet]. After the AI chooses a winner, we send the writer the entire script. Professional coverage of the full-length script will be humanized. The winner will have the opportunity to use the cover to strengthen their script. After that, the winning script will be sent to the three human producers,” he added.
However, the company quickly realized the problem with such an initiative and backed down.
He apologized for the trouble on social media.
“Unfortunately, we ran into an AI frenzy. We have been working for writers for the past 25 years. Bad decisions have been made to run with this. We apologize. We stand with the writers and the WGA,” he tweeted. “I guess we were thinking a little outside the box. They all failed.
