Avast researchers have discovered a new type of scam that uses the name and reputation of famous people like entrepreneur Elon Musk to trick people into investing in fake investment platforms. The scam is being spread through Facebook and Instagram ads. Clicking on the ad will take you to a web page that often looks like popular media outlets or websites. “In recent weeks, we’ve seen a huge increase in scams that defraud people of money under the guise of simple investments. Avast products have protected more than 60,000 users worldwide from this scam, but the scam is spreading in Australia, Canada, England, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Germany, Norway and the Czech Republic.
