Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused his political rivals of making false allegations against the banking system, saying citizens have no problem withdrawing their money from lenders.

“Tell me who hasn’t been able to withdraw their money from the bank in the last 21 years?” Erdogan made the comments in an interview with Ehaber TV on Friday, two days before the second round of the presidential election. His statement warned that if Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu is re-elected, there will be a banking crisis. “They are engaging in fear,” Erdogan said.
