NEW DELHI: Expecting a salary hike in what he calls his ‘dream job’, a Google employee working in the human resources department was caught off guard when he was interviewing a candidate at the tech giant.

“Unfortunately, I got fired from Google last Friday along with thousands of others. Just over a year ago I landed a dream job with a dream company. I was walking the dog when the recruiter called me to tell me he got the role and I almost choked the poor pushover I was so proud of,” Ryan’s post said.
“I didn’t expect such an abrupt end after 16 months, suspended from the system in the middle of a call. My contract was just extended for a year and I moved to the Cloud Sales recruitment team. (a high growth area) and only a week ago I was told I was getting a raise, I was caught off guard.”

While thanking his colleagues for their support, he asked for ‘visibility’ on the social media platform as he sought to resume work.
“I am forever grateful for all the things I have learned and all the wonderful people I have had the pleasure of working with. I would like to thank my managers Emma Daly-Ronai, Marie-Claire Kennedy and Jo Morgan, and my friends Yasmin Hussain. And Rocco Sek, your continued support has been instrumental in my success,” he said. “I’m open to work and I’m looking forward to taking everything I’ve learned and gained and bringing it to my next position, wherever that may be.”

Parent of Google Alphabet Inc recently announced it is cutting around 12,000 jobs due to ‘different economic realities’, doubling down on artificial intelligence (AI). Alphabet is facing competition from Microsoft, which is looking to increase its stake in ChatGPT — a chatbot that responds with human-like responses.
The job cuts will affect 6% of the workforce, and thousands will follow Dismissal Tech giants including Amazon.com Inc ( AMZN.O ), Microsoft Corp ( MSFT.O ) and Meta Platforms Inc ( META.O ).
Sundar Pichai, Alphabet’s boss since 2019, said in a staff memo that he took ‘full responsibility’ for the decisions that led to the layoffs. Pichai, whose pay was recently tied to performance, said this is a time to “sharpen our focus, realign our cost base and refocus our talent and capital on higher priorities,” as Alphabet seeks to get its products more AI-powered. Echoing comments from Microsoft announcing a layoff.
