37-year-old Lured To Invest In Cryptocurrency, Loses 7 Lakh | Ghaziabad News

Ghaziabad: A 37-year-old man was allegedly cheated of Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of investing it in cryptocurrency.
The victim Shailendra Kumar Singh is a resident of SG Grand, a highrise in Raj Nagar Extension. He works in the finance department of a private company.
He told the police that at the end of February, the fraudsters contacted him on Telegram, asking him to invest in cryptocurrency for a huge return.
“Initially, I refused, but then they joined me in a group where some people claimed to have made a profit by investing in this scheme. Impressed by this, I invested Rs 2,000 on March 1 and the accused promised me a return of Rs 2,800,” Singh told police.
Initially, the complainant got the return as promised, but later, when he started investing higher amounts, the accused asked him to invest more money.
“I had invested Rs 7 lakh, but when I asked for a return, the fraudster asked me to invest Rs 5 lakh more, after which I would get Rs 18 lakh as a return. Then I realised that I had been duped. When I searched on the internet, I came to know that many people are being cheated in this manner. Then, I filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell,” added the complainant.
Based on his complaint, the unidentified fraudsters have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) at Nandgram police station. “We are investigating the case and also enlisting the help of Cyber Cell. The accused will be nabbed soon,” said DCP (city) Nipurn Aggarwal.
