15-year-old South Korean Seoyoung Hong took home the award after an unforgettable performance with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

A new piano star is born, the winner of the 2023 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition has been announced, with a stunning concerto performance in the final round.

The final round of the competition took place last Saturday, with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and conductor Valentina Peleggi at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in downtown Dallas, Texas.

The winner was 15-year-old South Korean Seokyong Hong, who delivered a dazzling performance of one of the technically and musically challenging Rachmaninoff works. Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini.

Watch the climax of his incredible performance above. The teenager’s playing is full of fire, intensity and musical precision. Special mention must go to that wonderful double-octave glissando near the end.

The second prize of the competition was won by 14-year-old Chinese pianist Yifan Wu. In third place was 16-year-old Yan Schulmeister from the Czech Republic.

All finalists were awarded cash prizes and scholarships, and Hong won the audience award.

The Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition and Festival was established in In 2015 Hoping to support and encourage talented pianists between the ages of 13 and 17. It sits alongside the prestigious quadrennial Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Hong is in very good company in Clyburn. In recent years, there has been an impressive history for the South Korean giants in the organization’s main competition.
