Chelsea Handler opens up about her past relationship with comedian Joe Coy.

By Brooke Shields “Now What?” In a podcast published Tuesday, Handler said she truly thought she would spend the rest of her life with Coy.

“I believed this was my man. I thought, ‘Oh my God, I won.’ As soon as I got everything. I have my job, I have respect, I have my family, I have many friends,” she said. “I have all these things. And I thought, this is going to be the person I spend my life with.”

Hurdler said she was open to the idea of marriage before the two parted ways after almost a year together.

“I’m not that serious about getting married, but I was open to the idea, and we definitely discussed it at length because it was important to him,” she said. “And at the end of the relationship it became clear that this was not my man.”

She continued: “There were some features we disagreed with. I felt like I had to give up, which maybe if I was 20 or 25 I would have been okay with it, but I wasn’t willing to do it. As much as I loved this guy — and I loved him so much — I wasn’t going to let myself go,” Handler said. I’m not going to change my behavior to make you feel more comfortable. I’m not doing that, and I had to walk away from what I thought would be a forever relationship. So that was difficult.”

Handler and Koy first met 20 years ago, and he was a recurring guest on Handler’s former E! Show “Chelsea Soon”.

They announced they were a couple in September 2021 and separated in July.

The two haven’t spoken recently, Handler added.

“There needs to be some accountability for what happened because it’s just ridiculous, and I don’t think we can have a friendship until some accountability and some responsibility is taken,” she concluded.
