  • James Gunn says Kevin Bacon doesn’t like Christmas.
  • Bacon appears in Gunn’s latest special, “Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.”
  • However, Gunn told Variety that Bacon’s house in the film is more ornate than a typical house.

According to “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” director James Gunn, Kevin Bacon doesn’t like Christmas as much in his new Disney+ special.

Bacon plays himself in the latest Marvel special, which premieres Friday on Disney+, as Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) take him to the galaxy as a gift for their leader, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt).

In a new interview with Variety, Gunn was asked how the real bacon compares to how it was portrayed in the movie.

“Kevin doesn’t like Christmas,” Gunn replied. “That episode was really funny to me. I have Kevin set up in what’s supposed to be his house, and it’s full of all these giant inflatables. It looks like Santa Claus spit all over Bacon’s house, which looks nothing like Kevin’s. Bacon’s house. By any means.

The Marvel director continued: “It’s very LA-like, it’s just not Kevin. But Kevin is this great guy. He’s very talented, very professional, very selfish, and just a kind person. That’s just part of the character. It’s like him.”

This isn’t Bacon’s first time in a Marvel movie; The actor played “X-Men: First Class” villain Sebastian Shaw. However, it’s unclear if that movie will connect to the original Marvel Cinematic Universe after “X-Men” star Patrick Stewart appeared in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”

Gunn said there was no discussion about having two Kevin Bacon’s roaming around the Marvel Universe.

“One of the things that really impressed me about Kevin Feige running the MCU was that the most important thing was the project in front of him,” Gunn said. “You can have a plan on how you want to do something down the road, but if you really screw up what’s in front of you, it’s not going to work.”

He added: “The best thing about the holiday special is Kevin Bacon, and if that means Kevin Bacon is a different character later in the MCU, that’s okay. It’s not true. None of that is true. He was the perfect person to cast as Kevin Bacon. John Schneider as Kevin Bacon.” If we had left it, it would not have worked as well.
