Alone: After receiving interest from several high-profile buyers, Rachel Maddow is partnering with some of the biggest players in town on feature adaptations on her podcast. Rachel Maddow presents: Ultra. Amblin Entertainment has optioned the film rights to the podcast, sources tell Deadline Surprise Inside from MSNBC and Maddow’s production company. Steven Spielberg and Kristi McCosko Krieger will produce the film for Amblin, with Maddow and Mike Yarwitz replacing Surprise Inside.

While Spielberg will currently produce the film, the director’s job is open, but insiders added that longtime collaborator Tony Kushner, (the executive producer) and Danny Strong are in talks to co-write.

UltraAn MSNBC and NBC News production, the eight-episode podcast series explores the 80-year-old conspiracy to overthrow American democracy, and the fight inside and outside the courts to stop it. The series is executive produced by Maddow and former. The Rachel Maddow Show Producer Mike Yarvitz, and by the other side Editor Kelsey Desiderio. This is the first podcast in a series from Maddow and Yarwitt. Bag manRecipient of the DuPont-Columbia Award. It debuted at No. 1 on Apple Podcasts in October and stayed there for four consecutive weeks — and has remained in the Top 10 ever since.

Rachel Maddow presents: Ultra It is one of many projects in Maddo’s expanding portfolio across NBCUniversal platforms. After signing her new overall deal with MSNBC, where she left as host The Rachel Maddow Show Five days a week, once a week only on Mondays, Madow began zeroing in on the different areas she could focus on in this new phase of her career. With her agency WME, which she signed in August 2021, Maddow began looking at material on platforms that could serve as sources for future projects, including books, podcasts, articles and scripts. Sources close to Maddow say that while she’s been busy on that front, it’s never been about adding to her growing concept, but rather about producing high-quality material.

Eventually she will. Ultra, she is writing and hosting. In recent months, she began meeting with a number of high-profile producers interested in adapting the show, but in the end, the feature pitch produced by Ambilin, Spielberg and Co. was hard to pass up. With Kushner and his strong will, the game just got sweeter.

While her focus is on feature adaptations, Maddow continues to look for additional projects, particularly on the limited series and doc front, that fit her brand.
