Radio host Robyn Bailey has quit her KIIS FM radio show this week amid fears she will fail an upcoming cookery competition.
The 54-year-old, a self-confessed bad cook, broke down in tears on Friday ahead of the upcoming ‘Robin Can’t Cook’ kitchen episode, which will see her prepare a three-course meal for a full house. People in the local hotel.
KIIS 97.3FM Brisbane’s Robin, Terry and Kip had MasterChef Australia star Matt Preston on the line for moral support as Robin suffered an emotional breakdown from the upcoming challenge.
‘I can’t do it, I don’t want to do it, it’s bulls***t!’ she cried.
‘You saw me melt in my own kitchen. I can not!’ she cried out in tears.
As Preston said everyone was behind her, the radio star cried: ‘No, I ain’t got (no support), everybody wants me down, mate.’
Preston reassured Robin: ‘Robin, you have to believe you can do this. And you’re really supported.’
‘ This is absolutely not true. But really, Robin, you really believe you can do it. You just have to have a little faith in yourself.’
Robin then left the studio for 20 minutes to calm down before returning to her collaborators.
Co-host Kip Whiteman said he was offended by one of the comments he made during the shout-out.
The trigger was her telling Matt that everyone wanted her to fail. And that worried me,’ he said.
‘There are two parts to our friendship, one is I want to have fun with you on the radio, when things fail, if you eat this lunch and burn the pizza, it will be fun.
‘It’s funny, but I don’t want you to fail. I really believe in you.’
Having experienced a major tragedy in her personal life, Robyn takes responsibility for her anger and admits that she may be relating her personal trauma to the upcoming challenge.
‘ To God. I’ve been through two deaths and two husbands and what brought me to my knees was cooking,” she said.
I think I probably put all my sh*t right into this, right now when I’m going to “I can’t.”
Robin lost her second husband Sean Pickwell to liver cancer in September 2019.
His death comes five years after her first husband, Tony Smart, died by suicide in September 2014.
Robin joined the Australian Radio Network (ARN) 97.3 FM breakfast show, which returned to the airwaves in January 2020.
