Now, as evolved and grown artists, ATEEZ continue on a path that seeks to further refine their musical identity. Speaking to Airmilk, the eight-piece delve into the creative process behind their album, personal favorite tracks, how they inspire themselves and where their art is at right now.

1. You just released your new mini album World EP 2: Legal. Can you tell me about it and the creative process behind it?

Hongjong: In fact, the album was almost finished during our HALAZIA promotions. It’s an EP that was put together after a lot of thought from the members, the production team we work with, and our company staff. A lot of attention was paid to finding a middle ground between change and ATEEZ’s special color for the album.

2. Although it’s hard to choose, what would you say is your personal favorite track from your latest project and why?

Hongjong: My personal favorite track changes from day to day. Today I call it ‘dune’ because I am fascinated by how the atmosphere of the track gives me such a feeling every day.

Songhwa:My favorite song also changes every day. In fact, how good are all the songs. So today’s favorite song is ‘Awake’. I would love to perform a band version on stage one day.

Yunho:It is ‘Django’. The overall vibe of ‘Django’ and the many parts of the song that leave such a strong impact make it a favorite of mine.

Yosang:Personally, ‘Django’ is my favorite song. I have been listening to it over and over because the melody and melody are so good.

Sun:The style of the song ‘Django’ suits me very well and I really like the bold lyrics.

some:‘This world’. I think the lyrics are well written with a philosophical point of view.

awesomeIt’s ‘BOUNCY’. Other than ‘BOUNCY’ if we’re talking songs on the track list I’d say ‘Django’. It’s because I love the sound and the concept!

John:I would choose my favorite song as ‘Dune’! I did my best to record this. When I recorded the sound, I felt like I was breaking my boundaries to reach it.

3. How would you describe your artwork as it stands now and how do you think your sound has evolved over time?

some:Nowadays, art in this industry doesn’t just apply to songs. A person’s body parts, their overall mood, their fashion, their music, and the way they carry themselves are the summaries of what defines an artist. Where we are now as an ATEEZ group and as artists is still a question that has not been fully answered. Our sound has grown musically, with each member’s individual influences answering parts of the question, but we’re still an incomplete picture of that. We’re still searching for that answer, but there’s also an artistic side to showing that imperfect and incomplete side of us. (Like painting or fashion.)

4. As a team and as an individual, how do you keep yourself creatively motivated every day?

awesomeI love watching so many videos of K-pop artists! Our seniors in the industry have so much talent and skills and I am always inspired by them. I tend to watch a lot of Seven’s Hoshi and MONSTA X’s IM videos.

5. After dates in Europe and upcoming dates in Asia and Latin America, you’ve had quite the tour schedule this year. Besides meeting your fans around the world, what is your favorite part of touring?

Yosang:First of all, meeting the fans is the best part of the tour. I am very happy to see everyone. The next best thing is probably that I get to try all kinds of delicious food and get to know the culture of every country we visit. It’s something I’m very grateful for.

6. Do you have any special memories or events that come to mind from your visits?

Yunho:We made some amazing memories with the fans and every show was unforgettable. Apart from that, I have some fond memories of playing football with the members or going to watch some matches during tours.

7. Bucket list countries you would like to do in the future?

John:I would really love to go to the country where we are waiting to perform ATINY! That’s my most accurate answer, but I’d love to go to Switzerland too!

8.Speaking of the future, are there any concepts, styles or genres that you would like to experiment with as a band?

Sun:We’ve done it once before, but I want to try a uniform style like we did for ‘Wonderland’.

9. Finally, what is the one question that no one asked you before you wanted to ask it?

Songhwa:Not really a question, but I tried to rap for this album. It was completely new to me, but so many ATINY sent me their support and assured me. I take this time to thank ATINY for encouraging me. I want to convey my endless gratitude for your courage.
