Squid Releases “Under Development” Single, Video Game, Announces 2024 Tour

Squid They shared “Undergrowth” from their upcoming album. Oh Monolith It’s on Warp June 9. The loping, funky song inspired by one of the most controversial plotlines/parts Twin Peaks.

“I really got into animism, that spirits can live in inanimate objects,” says the song’s singer/drummer, Olly Judge. “I was watching Twin Peaks, and it was the room where Josie Packard’s ghost went into a chest of drawers. So ‘Undergrowth’ was written from the point of view of being reincarnated as a bedside table in the afterlife, and how terrifying it would be to imagine being reincarnated as an inanimate object. This is not what I want/ Many options must be discouraged. Although I’m not religious, I don’t think anyone who isn’t religious can be confident that they haven’t had a fleeting thought about “Fuck”, what if there is life in the air? What if I’m going to hell?” You can watch the music video below.

“Undergrowth” also comes with a video game that falls somewhere between Super Mario Bros and Space Invaders, where you play as a wooden cabinet, collecting coins and shooting aliens. You can play here.
