Manti – Big success begins with an unforgettable, laughable “sweep”, recently returned to Utah. If you saw the free show at Rat Fink Reunion last year, things were different this year, especially for the man who brought them there.

The first difference was the set list.

With Bob Berryhill, the only remaining founding member, in 2022 the group played popular surf songs by various artists. But this year they had their own tunes.

The Mouse Fink Reunion honors Ed Roth, the creator of the ugly Mickey Mouse character. In the year He died in 2001 and his widow, Ellen Roth, and his family carry on his legacy by gathering in Manti on the first weekend in June.

Elaine Roth said her favorite song is “Wipe Out” so in 2022 she brought the Surfers into her backyard. But she said she was too shocked to enjoy it. She was still in shock over losing her husband. Here is a sample of the concert.

This year, she plans to soak it all in — just take a little breather and take in the music.

Bob Berryhill was happy to bring his group back to central Utah for two reasons: First, a group of hot-rodders from around the world relate to surfs and hot rod music.

Berryhill also sold the Surfers’ definitive “Wipe-Out” album. The real surfers. After the self-funded single, he said the budding musicians signed on to Dot Records. In the year They recorded an album full of songs on Saturday in 1963, and earlier this month, the album was released. It wasn’t a quick vinyl pressing job; The producers used other musicians on most of the tracks. The record’s cover reads: “SURFARIS – WIPE OUT (two songs from the previous single) and Surfer Joe.. and other popular selections by other instrumental groups.”

The group was shocked and angry. Saxophonist Jim Pash’s father, Ed, sued Dot Records, which led to the band starting its own label in September. Dot put the album out there because it would make money, and Surfaris ended up on the Decca label.

This year in Manti, the Surfaris signed their own “Wipe Out” album on vinyl. You can find the full reunion schedule at ratfink.com.
