Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 3Ted Lasso It has many interesting characters but doesn’t delve into each of their stories. What matters most is how they relate to Ted (Jason Sudeikis), and most of them will meet during the event. However, there is one big difference: Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt). While Ted’s reason for moving to a new country is clear, no explanation is given other than that he and Ted work together. An intelligent and easy-going assistant coach tags along with his friend and uproots his life from a completely different sport without complaint. The two American coaches are an unlikely duo, but they use it to their advantage. Tim and Ted’s friendship began long before the series, and they never wavered in their loyalty to each other. Although Ted treats everyone this way, Beard is more reserved, making his dedication to Ted an interesting exception.

Ted himself is a forgiving man, and the show explores forgiveness and redemption through various stories. Chapter 1 Takes Rebekah (Hannah Waddingham) from her original plan to lead the group to a friendly and kind boss. And the show has long detailed Jamie Tart.Phil Dunster) slow progression from self-centered douchebag to supportive teammate. Nate Shelley (ed.)Nick MuhammadWhen he quits his job with Rupert, he is next on the road to redemption (Anthony Head). In Season 3, Episode 11, “Mother City”, the team wants Nate to return to Richmond despite the tumultuous path he took. Not to mention the drama between him and Ted when Nate insults his former boss in a public interview, the whole team seems to take it as a personal affront.

But when Ted hears the team has forgiven him, he’s ready to do the same. Even Roy KentBrett Goldstein) can’t be worried about the past. However, the beard is the catch. With Nate outright and Ted protecting him, Beard isn’t ready to let Nate back into the fold. Ted gives a short, pointed speech about how no one should be judged for their low level of actions, and Beard quickly changes his tune and goes to Nate’s house. Beard’s rapid transformation is a result of his experience with Ted, and he finally reveals to Nate what happened.

Beard gets little attention in the series, but in the end, he gets some time in the spotlight, as he and Ted meet in college, turning to the beginnings of his and Ted’s friendship while playing (American) football. Neither of them was the team’s best player and spent a lot of time on the bench, which made them get to know each other well. After graduation, Ted got married and started coaching, but Beard took a darker path. The end is prison. Beard had nowhere to go when he was released, so Ted called him and gave him a place to stay, and Beard stole his car… Ted convinces the police that he gave it to his beard and prevents him from going back to jail. From then on, Ted’s kindness continued, he got the beard job and treated him like family. After his undeserved show of forgiveness, it’s no surprise that Beard shows his loyalty to Ted. Knowing Ted’s special heart personally, Beard’s desire to follow him anywhere makes perfect sense. Ted goes to England to save his marriage, but Beard goes with Ted.

Beard is always a slightly off-kilter, if unimaginative, presence on the show, but this backstory makes the character even more so. The dark story certainly sheds light on the complexity of Beard and Ted’s relationship, but it doesn’t change Beard’s character. The main point of the story is that Ted’s kindness changes Beard’s life and allows him to find a better way. He’s the same goofy guy he’s always been on the show, although there’s probably a better understanding of him with history.

Even as Beard tells the story, Nate points out similarities Les Mi. The story from Victor HugoA novel about the French Revolution is reflected in the story of Ted and the Beard. When ex-prisoner Jean Valjean could no longer support himself because of his record, a benevolent bishop gave him a place to stay. Valjean repays his kindness by stealing from the man, who lies to ensure Valjean’s release, gives him what he stole and more. Valjean pays that kindness forward and begins a new life when given the chance. The story of Ted and Beard is basically a modern version of Jean Valjean and the Pope, which is why Valjean jokes that Beard “stole a loaf of meth” when he was caught and imprisoned for stealing bread. The biggest difference in the story is that the Bishop and Valjean are strangers, while Ted and Beard knew each other before they were arrested. Still, Ted never once judged Beard for the low time, and Beard strongly urges him to treat Nat the same way and give him a chance to redeem himself. Beard recognizes Ted’s wisdom, but his apology is more boring.

Ted’s kindness is perfect in his character, but Tim’s past gives a deeper insight into him. It is also a testament to the lasting change that Ted can inspire. Although many characters have grown under Ted’s watch, he hasn’t had time to see how these changes will stick. Beard shows that Ted’s kindness makes a lasting difference, which is the beauty of the show. Ted teaches the importance of “becoming a goldfish” about your own weaknesses and the weaknesses of others. A complete lack of resentment towards the people who have wronged them creates an environment that allows those around to forgive each other.
