- His sister Olivia is married to Ethan Platt, one of 10 children, and stars in the reality TV show ‘Welcome to Plattville’ about a conservative Georgia family.
- Micah’s family said ‘a cheerful and courageous determination defined his life’, saying he was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
The 15-year-old brother of reality TV star Olivia Plath was hit by a car while riding his electric bike on Thursday.
Micah Meggs was pronounced dead at the scene after his Honda Accord crashed on US 220 in Franklin County, Virginia, The Roanoke Times reports.
The family said Micah had cerebral palsy, which is caused by damage to the nerve network in his shoulder during birth.
Plath, 25, who starred in Georgia-based family docs Welcome to Platteville, wrote on Instagram Stories: ‘Last night I lost a little brother in an accident and need some clarity and space to grieve.’
Olivia, who is married to Ethan Platt, 24, said she has been ‘jumping off social media for a while’ and ‘taking some space now’ because of the tragedy.
Her mother-in-law Kim Platt, owner of the reality TV family, lost her 17-month-old son Joshua in a car accident in 2008, when she miscarried him on the family farm in Georgia.
In the accident, Meggs was in the right southbound lane of the road when he was struck by the vehicle.
The crash happened less than a mile north of Virginia 619.
The driver of the Honda was not injured.
Micah is the ninth of Don and Karen Meggs’ 10 children.
He is survived by his parents, grandparents, siblings Elijah, Joshua, Elise, Olivia, Lydia, Sophia, Nathan, Karis and Kirsten, as well as nieces and nephews, his family said in the obituary.
According to his relatives, Micah always wanted to bring happiness to those who approached him.
“Micah loved hanging out with his siblings and a few close friends, playing practical jokes, sharing an unspoken joke and laughing with his loved ones,” the family said.
Micah’s family said his life was marked by ‘fun and courageous determination.’
‘He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and fishing, and became an accomplished outdoorsman,’ they said.
The family added: ‘He enjoyed displaying his awards and making video tutorials to teach others how to enjoy the life he loved.’
While his cerebral palsy ‘made it difficult for him to do the things he really enjoyed,’ Micah said, ‘he never complained or was limited by his disability and despite this struggle, he never found a way to pursue his activities outside the home.’
He added: ‘Micah brought great light, laughter and love to the lives he touched and his presence will be sorely missed.’
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the United Brachial Plexus Network.
Welcome to Platteville for the first time on TLC in 2019, Olivia and Ethan, his eight siblings, and parents Barry and Kim Platt.
According to a show synopsis from TLC, the Platts are a family of ’11 blond, blue-eyed people living in southeast Georgia who share a passion for music, religion, family life and traditional roles.’
Barry and Kim Platt have 10 children, just like Megs – their 17-month-old son Joshua was born in 2011. He died in a car accident in 2008.
Kim Platt was using her car to move fruit trees on their Georgia property, and she didn’t see the baby.

But I ran it.
She was pregnant with her eighth child at the time.
The nine surviving siblings participated in the event.
On a now-deleted family website, according to People , Kim Platt wrote that she was tormented by her son’s death.
I woke up every morning and worked. But barely. I wanted to die,’ she wrote.
My husband was dealing with the loss of his son and wife. I was gone. Confirmed. Not available for chats or facts.
I thought about the charges I would have thrown at Barry if the situation had changed.
‘He never did. He didn’t even hint at such a thing. He was strong. He just loved me.’
Kim and Barry Platt announced their intention to divorce last year after 24 years of marriage.
They told people that after much thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage.
We know that this decision is not an easy one, but it is a choice for both of us. We have been through many ups and downs in our 24 years of marriage and as we explore this new chapter in our lives we will raise our wonderful children together.’
