A Bergamont Grandurance and Sweep Road Bike product recall has been announced by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS)

The alert is reportedly due to an issue with the front fender bracket, which can break without warning and cause a blockage of the front wheel.

The announcement notes that the bike has a risk of injuries, as the bracket that holds the front fender to the fork crown can break under sideways pressure or twisting whilst riding. This could cause a loss of control and lead to an accident, says the OPSS.

The Grandurance bike was sold by authorised Bergamont dealers. Customers are asked to immediately stop using the bike or fenderset, and return it to an authorised Bergamont dealer for a free replacement front fender bracket.

Leigh Day product safety team partner Thomas Jervis said:

“Safety should be the paramount consideration for companies who make and supply bikes to consumers. Safety issues should be picked up at the design stage before they make their way to the market.”

A list of models recalled with immediate effect is on the OPSS website.
