In order to provide insurance coverage for visitors through the various border-crossing points to the Sultanate of Oman, the Capital Market Authority issued a health insurance policy form for visitors, including basic treatment services in the event that the visitor is exposed to perils or injury on the Omani territories.

The issuance of the policy comes within the framework of the ongoing efforts to regulate the health insurance market in the Sultanate of Oman, promoting and regulating insurance products that meet the needs of the local market which translates the efforts of the CMA to develop the performance of the insurance sector in accordance with the strategy that it seeks to achieve during the period 2021-2025 in line with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040 to support the welfare, social protection and healthcare for the residents and visitors at highest quality.

The policy will also play an important role in upgrading local tourism services and making the Sultanate of Oman a tourist destination that provides protection for tourists from the perils they may be exposed to during their visit to the governorates and Wilayats. It contributes to regulating the insurance relationship between the policyholder visitor, insurance companies and private health institutions. Furthermore, it ensures the provision of appropriate health care for each visitor within the specified period of their stay.

The policy is flexible in terms of ease of obtaining insurance coverage for basic treatment services that are available through the websites of insurance companies operating in the Sultanate of Oman, beside additional coverages and benefits the visitors can add according to their needs. The policy also includes in the general provisions several clauses that ensure that visitors obtain basic insurance coverage by insurance companies so that the insurance coverage of the insured coincides with the duration of the visit. It also specifies the basic insurance coverages that must be available to visitors such as inpatient, emergency services and transport of the corpse of the deceased visitor to the home country. It also identifies the exclusions.

It is worth noting that the health insurance policy form for visitors comes as a continuation of the final stages of efforts to prepare the regulatory infrastructure necessary to implement the health insurance system for the employees of the private sector, expatriates residing in the Sultanate and visitors.
