On June 8, 2023, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics (“Dartmouth Hitchcock”) made the difficult but necessary decision to implement a workforce restructuring initiative to improve efficiency and to more closely mirror how other healthcare organizations of our size are structured.

As a result, 75 employees were affected and nearly 100 additional job vacancies were cut, most as of June 23, 2023. With very few exceptions, those affected have been notified. Jobs are not eliminated based on the individual employees in those positions but instead on specific roles within the organization’s structure. The restructuring is designed to produce the greatest strategic impact with the fewest cuts.

Despite significant improvement efforts across the organization since the commencement of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Performance Improvement Plan for November 2022, we continue to face significant financial and operational pressures resulting from the pandemic. We are not alone, as 70% of the country’s hospitals face similar challenges. We are committed to overcoming these complex and systemic challenges, but it was necessary to take deliberate and clear actions to develop and operate more efficiently while maintaining the delivery of high-quality, world-class care to the community.
