The workforce shortage is having a critical impact on Kentucky’s key industries, especially health care, according to a July 19 statement.

With a statewide hospital workforce vacancy rate of 17.1 percent, the Kentucky Hospital Association has provided resources to hire five new regional director positions dedicated to healthcare as part of the Kentucky Chamber Foundation’s Workforce Center Talent Pipeline Management Program. Four of the five positions are now being filled while the search for a fifth Regional Director is still ongoing.

The TPM program is designed for companies to play a larger role in building their talent supply chains. Working with regional TPM managers, hospitals and healthcare systems, you will have the opportunity to join together in a collaborative effort to:

• Implement and build talent supply chains that support career awareness, career exploration, and career experience opportunities in the hospital industry.

• Recruitment of talent in hospital systems and educational programs.

• Identify preferred service providers to help build a diverse and fair talent pipeline.

• Align public and private resources to develop and maintain talent pipelines.

• Identify and share regional best practices to support critical functions required for different types of hospitals.

• The hospital’s TPM initiative focuses on key regions, including Greater Louisville, Central and Northern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Southern Kentucky, and Eastern Kentucky.

“The Kentucky Chamber is committed to supporting health care providers across the Commonwealth during critical times. By working with KHA to allocate five TPM® Project Manager positions to the hospital industry, this partnership allows us to dive deeper into exploring short- and long-term solutions to the workforce crisis,” said Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Ashley Watts. “We are very proud of our partnership with the Kentucky Hospital Association to drive real and meaningful change in the industry and ensure that Kentucky has the healthcare workforce to meet the needs of our state together.”

KHA President and CEO Nancy Galvagni noted, “This collaboration between the KHA and the Kentucky Chamber is critical to addressing the hospital workforce crisis. By encouraging and empowering individuals to choose healthcare careers, we can ensure that high-quality care is delivered to our communities, while creating new and rewarding career opportunities for the next generation of healthcare professionals. We are excited to lead this project to support our workforce through the current crisis.”

Over the past six years, the TPM team has engaged nearly 400 employers to help enhance the workforce across key industries in Kentucky, the statement said. Read more about the work of the Kentucky Chamber Foundation’s Workforce Center in the 2022 Impact Report.
