MU Health Care announced that an employee had improperly accessed 736 medical records.

A press release from the hospital said they learned in March that the person had been looking up health information in the electronic medical record (EMR).

A hospital investigation found the person used the EMR between July 2021 and March 2023 without a purpose covered by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Hospital officials said they do not believe the person used the information or shared it with others.

MU Health Care started mailing letters to patients whose info was accessed.

They said the person could have seen patient information including their name, date of birth, medical record number, and limited treatment or clinical information such as diagnostic or procedure information.

People with questions can call MU Health Care’s Privacy Office at (888) 850-2357 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
