As part of the study, the team analyzed data from more than 24,000 people.
After participants completed a questionnaire on their lifestyle habits, their blood pressure was measured and a urine sample was collected.
Urine sodium and potassium were used to estimate dietary intake.
It was found that there is a relationship between potassium consumption and blood pressure in women – as the intake increased, blood pressure decreased, but this relationship was not made among men.
