Müller recalls Cadbury dessert products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an alert following the announcement that Müller will be taking the precautionary step of recalling various batches of Cadbury dessert products due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

This organism can cause listeriosis which can lead to flu-like symptoms including chills, high temperature, diarrhoea, muscle pain, and being sick. Certain people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including pregnant people and their unborn babies, those over the age of 65, people with weakened immune systems, and babies under one month old.

In severe, rare cases, the infection can cause serious complications including meningitis.

The Food Standards Agency has advised those who have recently purchased any of the following products not to eat them and to return them to the store for a full refund:

• Cadbury Daim Chocolate Dessert (75g, use by 18 May 2023)
• Cadbury Crunchie Chocolate Dessert (75g, use by 17 May 2023)
• Cadbury Flake Chocolate Dessert (75g, use by 17 May 2023)
• Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons Chocolate Dessert (75g, use by 18 May 2023)
• Cadbury Dairy Milk Chunks Chocolate Dessert (75g, use by 18 May 2023)
• Cadbury Hero’s Chocolate Dessert (six pack, 6x75g, use by 18 May 2023)

Leigh Day product safety lawyer Angela Bruno said:

“All food safety alerts are a cause for concern, but the level of consumer trust which branded products have earned makes this listeria scare particularly worrying.

“Anyone who has purchased any of these Cadbury products should return them promptly and if anyone has been affected by the reported listeria outbreak, they are welcome to contact us for legal guidance.”
