Weight loss: It’s as simple as eating less and exercising more, right?

No, not really. If it takes forever to lose weight, but if you gain weight seemingly overnight, you may have health problems that are derailing your efforts.

Angie Ehrenzweig is a good example of how important it is to overcome health problems first. Yes, she lost 100 pounds in a year — but the weight came off very slowly at first. When she appeared in Healthy Utah, she struggled with fibromyalgia, extreme fatigue, insulin resistance, depression, systemic inflammation, and metabolic syndrome.

After work she had very little energy so she would go home and sit on the couch for the rest of the night. She couldn’t go hiking with her friends or spend quality time with her husband and children.

Her first appointment and scan

At her first appointment, Health Utah Dr. Whit Roberts performed a special scan on her body. The scan is a non-invasive assessment of the physical condition, which immediately provides the patient’s physiology, stress, fatigue, risk factors and more.

Roberts could immediately see the many physiological challenges Angie faced. Describing her experience with the pain, Angie said, “I was blown away. I couldn’t believe how much information I had and how much I learned about my health. I doubt I could have learned more with 20 blood tests and an MRI.”

Before an appointment at EveryHealth Utah, patients fill out a proprietary questionnaire that identifies additional health problems that may contribute to weight gain. The questionnaire is the result of Roberts’ 28 years of experience and research. There is almost always a perfect correlation between the test results and the questionnaire.

Roberts uses both of these to guide you through a 40-minute consultation and evaluation. Why so long? Roberts says: “Today, the art of evaluating a person’s health history has been completely lost in medicine. If a test or imaging fails to show a problem, doctors often ignore the patient’s symptoms. That’s too bad. A lot of information can be found. It comes from listening to the patient. It takes time to hear and see everything he shares.

Armed with all the information he needed, Roberts devised a health care and weight loss protocol for Angie. Fortunately, most of the time, his protocols can address everything that is different in the inspection, the questionnaire and the consultation. This was Angie’s case.

By the time she finished her care, she no longer suffered from the debilitating pain of fibromyalgia or struggled with crippling fatigue. Her depression was gone. The swelling on her body and the swelling in her legs are gone.

These symptoms have resolved the more serious health problems of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Without first addressing health issues like insulin resistance, losing weight is very difficult. This is why Angie lost relatively little weight at the beginning of her program.

What is the program?

How Roberts and the team at Health Utah solved all of Angie’s conditions is beyond the scope of this article. However, Roberts explained some protocols for one of her conditions, insulin resistance.

“With insulin drugs, the receptors on the outside of each cell literally change shape and don’t allow insulin to bind. This is a problem, because the glucose that drives the cells can only enter the cell if the insulin binds to it,” Roberts says.

When there is insulin resistance, the sugar that is expected to enter the cells stays in the blood where it causes damage. In an effort to prevent this damage, the body takes in excess sugar and stores it as fat.

“That’s why it’s so hard to gain weight and lose weight on insulin. And that’s why you need to address that before you spend thousands of dollars and hours of effort trying to lose weight,” Roberts continued.

There are many different causes of insulin resistance such as smoking and other lifestyle factors, poor diet, stress, toxins and metabolic problems. So there are many ways to solve it. To address toxins, for example, Roberts and his team use herbs that are primary and secondary liver detoxifiers.

Supplements are often used to prevent blood sugar and insulin levels from responding to food and/or stress. For certain metabolic disorders, increased AMP enzyme production may help. For example, AMP kinase helps convert insulin receptors to insulin. “We do this through infrared light and heat therapy. The body’s inflammatory responses can increase the production and release of stress chemicals, so using herbs that reduce inflammation can reduce stress,” Roberts said. This is by identifying and eliminating stimulating foods from the diet. Roberts recommends intermittent fasting. If you can go longer if your blood sugar and insulin levels are low, your receptors will absorb more insulin.

First steps

Roberts and his staff devoted more than an hour to testing, evaluation and advice. To save time and then avoid showing up, a small fee of $59 is collected before the appointment. Then your first step is to either call (801) 609-3478 or visit Health Utah today for your screening, evaluation and consultation.

Special offer

With any health or weight loss journey, it’s important to have the help of family and friends. In a British study, researchers found that both men and women doubled their weight loss success when they did it with a partner. So Health Utah is offering their most popular weight loss package for $59 for two people. You and a friend can try it out, receive a 17-page report, take the proprietary survey, and have a consultation with Dr. Roberts. The scan alone is typically $300 per person.
