You may be one of those baseball fans who has a very specific favorite team — a team that can become a religion in your home because of your upbringing and loyalty. That club is your club, 365 days a year, the year of your life. Your team is there, and there is Opponent. There is nothing wrong with this. It is the base of many fans.

But, increasingly, more and more baseball fans have declared some form of fan free agency. No matter how good and fun they are, they don’t swear loyalty to one team forever. They’ll pick whatever club looks like the most fun, with the most attractive players, the ones you want to land and have a sense of. They are…your bandwagon fans.

Being a fan of the band once had a negative connotation — after all, if you weren’t there for the bad times, how could you enjoy the good times? But then again, what’s wrong with enjoying a good time?

So, today, we’re putting together six bandwagon fan groups — six candidates for matching fans. They’re fun, sure, but they’re also not obvious choices: no Yankees or Dodgers here. These are the teams that speak for their success, the most likely to be growth stocks as the year goes on…or at least the clubs that grow in fanfare. And the best part about being a fan of the band? If your chosen team goes into a frenzy, you can always move on to another.

Your nominees for the best bandwagons of 2023 are listed in alphabetical order.

Angels
There are two obvious reasons why the Angels should be on this list: Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, two of the best, most exciting talents in the game…notable talents with not a single playoff win between them. . But the Angels have some doomsday drama for them this year as well.

Angels in distress — in desperation — They want to make the playoffs this year. Will it pay? Or will it all melt away? Joining this team as a bandwagon fan is the ultimate no-lose proposition: You can either cheer for Ohtani all year long… or you can find whatever team trades for him at the deadline.

Cubs
First, it’s fun to be a Cub fan, even during the team’s season. no i don’t good. Wrigleyville, the Raiders, that stadium, the fact that you never know when Eddie Vedder or Bill Murray will show up.

Plus, the Cubs play in, to be fair, a not particularly tough division.

Chicago might surprise some people this year. Bandwagon fans can live for it… or just enjoy the words if they don’t get the price.

D-backs
One of the best parts of being a bandwagon fan is that you can secretly cheer for a band that no one is talking about, even though they should be. The D-backs may be the team that best meets that definition this year.

This division is certainly tough, but right now the D-backs might be the third-best team, good enough to sneak into a wild card spot. The point: Very few people are talking about Arizona right now, which means you’ll look good if everyone starts doing it in August.

Orioles
It’s fair to say it hasn’t been a good season for the Orioles in a variety of ways, both on and off the field. But this is still a franchise with a proud fanbase that has waited a long time to find a worthwhile team.

And while the Orioles wish they could do a little more this offseason, there’s no question they’re relevant again, with a smart and resourceful front office that has loaded the closet with exciting young talent like Adley Rutschmann, Gunnar Henderson, and Gunnar Henderson. They have Grayson Rodriguez, Colton Kauser and, wow, seriously, the Orioles. lot of Young talent. (Fun fact: The O’s have eight players on MLB Pipeline’s recently released Top 100 Prospects list, more than any other club, and that doesn’t include Rutschman.)

If Baltimore makes the playoffs, fans are going to go. Nuts. Wouldn’t it be fun to do the same thing alongside them?

Sailors
The Mariners may have baseball’s most exciting young player in Julio Rodriguez, a supernatural talent with a burning charisma who has seemingly single-handedly saved this franchise and its fans from 20 years in the wilderness. Seattle is all the way up.

You saw how loud this crowd got in the ALDS, right? Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? The Mariners are now as close to an “it” franchise as baseball has ever been, which means they can join many partners on this journey.

Rangers
You may have noticed that half of the teams on this list are from the same category. That’s what happens when you play in the same division as the defending champs: teams always want to take out the established favorites.

The Rangers are a team with big names and big dreams that are fun to look back on: People rarely think of Jacob deGrom, Corey Seager or Marcus Semien. The beginningBut now, for a team desperate to win and willing to spend money to do so, those stars will be part of building something rather than cogs in a well-oiled machine.

Plus, what’s up for grabs now to add talent is self-supporting and self-evident: the Rangers now bring in more of that talent. All are welcome, but they don’t have to be bandwagon fans. You can see how this works, and if it doesn’t work out, move on to someone else.

look up? Being a Banda Fan: It’s All Up!
