It’s been a strange year for the Dodgers. Heading into July, the team are firmly in contention for the play-offs, but if you ask most fans, they’re not feeling confident about making the playoffs. This is partly due to their issues in the pitching department, but if we know anything about this team, they will make moves to fix their issues. But now, this team has lost every game they’ve played, and they’ve had games they’d normally win in June.

These struggles saw them fall one spot in the latest MLB.com power rankings. LA came in at number seven, dropping just one spot from last time. The team picked things up last week as they went 4-1 with back-to-back wins over the Angels and Astros. But they can’t rest on their hands and need to keep picking up wins to get in the NL West.

The Dodgers are in third place in their division, behind the Arizona Diamondbacks and the gritty San Francisco Giants. But despite all their issues this season, they are only a few games off the top of the division. This, in my opinion, speaks more to who they are as a ball club.

The formula for success is there for this Dodgers team, but they just need to put a few things together as the trade deadline approaches. LA will have options to improve the roster and if they can fix a few things in the bullpen they can make a run. They will also get some of their injured players back soon and that will help put some problems to bed.

The Dodgers have been plagued by injuries all season and manager Dave Roberts has done his best to manage them. Yes, he made some tough decisions but for the most part, he was forced to work with what he had.

The prospect of a World Series run is still alive and well, and now President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman & Co. just has to make some big decisions. The Diamondbacks and Giants remain real threats to the division, and LA doesn’t want to be scraping and scraping for a postseason spot as the season winds down. The time is now, and while Friedman has earned the skepticism from fans to be patient as he expands the market, this team can’t afford to wait much longer.

LA has an off day today before going on a road trip to see the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Royals. A solid week or two and the Dodgers could find themselves back in the division. That’s both the beauty and the curse of baseball.
