San Francisco Giants by the Cincinnati Reds

The two teams coming out of the All-Star break will go in different directions. The Giants swept the Pirates in three straight games, averaging nearly six runs per game, while the Reds dropped three straight games to the Brewers, scoring a total of three runs in the process. Tonight’s matchup doesn’t look good for the Reds as they send Brandon Williamson (5.21 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) to the mound for Logan Webb (3.14 ERA, 1.11 WHIP). Webb’s last two starts have seen him record 10 and 11 strikeouts, and he will have plenty of rest in his final start coming July 9 after the break. The Reds are bound to turn it around offensively soon, but I’ll knock them out tonight. Match

Citizens of Washington In the Chicago Cubs

Drew Smiley O/U 4.5 Strikeouts (Draft Kings)

I don’t like to put these kinds of odds on props, but the numbers don’t lie here. Smiley has surpassed that mark in just one of his last eight games and heads into the All-Star break on a three-game losing streak. He never lasted more than four innings in those games and allowed four home runs (11.1 innings) in that span. The Nationals are hitting .334 (eighth-best in the league) against left-handed pitchers this season, and their 18.9 percent strikeout rate is the third-lowest. As of May 12, after eight starts, Smiley’s ERA was 2.83 and as of today, it’s 4.31 as the season progresses, indicating that it’s trending in the wrong direction.

Best player prop for the San Francisco Giants over the Cincinnati Reds

New York Yankees Los Angeles Angels

I went back and forth between Moniak and Taylor Ward (1+ RBI is +140 DraftKings) but ultimately decided on Moniak because he had better odds. The two have been doing third and cleanup for the Angels over the weekend and are somewhat responsible for guarding Shohei Ohtan. Moniak comes into the game on a seven-game hitting streak and has an RBI in five of his last 10 contests. It’s been a great matchup for the Angels against Luis Severino (7.38 ERA, seven earned runs in each of his last two starts) and Los Angeles has scored 26 runs in the three games since the break.

Minnesota Twins Seattle Mariners

This game features the best pitching matchup of the night as Sonny Gray (2.89 ERA) faces Logan Gilbert (2.10 ERA in last five starts). Other sites have this line at 7 to +100 odds but I prefer to take the shot with the juice and hold the hook here. Last season, Gilbert threw six scoreless innings in one start with the Twins and struck out tonight’s projected starting lineup 16 times in 43 plate appearances (37.2 percent). This leads me to suggest a little sprinkling on the Mariners/Under parlay tonight who believe Gilbert will unearth another gem.
