The Long Beach Yacht Club is pleased to announce that it is accepting invitations to the Long Beach stop of the California Dreamin Series scheduled for April 1 and 2, 2023. The longest-running match racing series features three events at three prestigious clubs. Jan. 28-29 Jan. 28-29 Jan. 22 Sails from the San Diego Yacht Club. Competitors will then head north to the St. Francis Yacht Club on March 4-5 for more J22 racing on San Francisco Bay. The final regatta will be held in the Long Beach Ocean, aboard LBYC’s fleet of Catalina 37s. Built for match racing purposes, the “37s” required a crew of six to seven and became famous around the world for racing the Congress Cup.

The California Dreamin’ Series is traditionally LBYC’s premier race of the year and plays a major role in the club’s annual run of events. “CDS heats up every year as we head to the Ficker Cup and Congressional Cup two weeks later,” said Steve Meyer, chairman of the CDS Long Beach stand. “As a Class 3, it attracts the most talented sailors and gives our staff, volunteers and race committee the critical representation they need before the World Championships run.”

As an added bonus, the winner of the California Dreamin’ Series will receive an invitation to the Ficker Cup, which gives their team a chance to qualify for the Congressional Cup next year. Interested boats are encouraged to visit the regatta home page where they can submit an RFI for the series. Priority will be given to skaters who opt-in to all three events, but there are often spots available for those who can do one or two.
