Zell am See, Austria (AP) — World Cup slalom leader Lucas Bratton said he was released from the hospital Thursday after undergoing surgery for appendicitis ahead of the world championships.

The 22-year-old Norwegian will not miss Saturday’s World Cup Slam in France but is targeting races at the worlds in Courchevel and Meribel in two weeks’ time.

“It’s been a tough couple of days since I found out I had a serious infection in my appendix,” Breton wrote in an Instagram post that included a photo of himself from his hospital bed.

“I had surgery and I was blessed that it was successful,” he said.

Braaton, whose mother is Brazilian, has been a prominent figure off the ice this season.

Skiing with his personal trademark painted fingernails, he has two wins in the slalom and one in the giant slalom, as well as three more podium finishes.

At worlds, the men’s giant slalom is on February 17, with the slalom closing the two-week championships on February 19.
