
The Boston Red Sox have vastly improved their bullpen this offseason, but there are always moves to be made.
Boston’s bullpen finished 2022 with the fifth-worst ERA in all of Major League Baseball at 4.59, but that may not be the case in 2023. The Red Sox made some strong moves to sign Joely Rodriguez, Chris Martin, and three others. -time All-Star Kenley Jansen so the bullpen should improve significantly next season.
As things stand now, the Red Sox’ bullpen heading into 2023 is right-handed dominant and could use another left-handed reliever to balance it out. The Red Sox are pursuing a deal with free agent Zachary Britton that could improve their team and give them the best bullpen in baseball if everything shakes out well.
The two-time All-Star has been with the New York Yankees since the 2018 season, but is now a free agent and could be signed if Boston offers him the right contract. Britton only appeared in three games in 2022 and is turning 35, so the deal may not be astronomical, but he could make a big impact in Boston.

Britton He struggled to a 5.89 ERA in 2022 but had an ERA of 2.00 in 2019 and 2020. If he can achieve even a fraction of that success in 2023, he’ll be a great option for Boston’s bullpen. .
With a team bullpen ERA of 4.59 in 2022, the Red Sox can only go up. Pairing Britton with Jansen will be a nightmare for opposing teams if both stay healthy through the season.
