It was a relatively close first quarter, but in the end, Jayson Tatum came out on top with an 18-16 lead over the rival Brooklyn Nets — as all five were on the floor Wednesday night. Having Tatum teammates was a shame for Brooklyn.

Factor in the rest of Tatum’s Celtics roster, and Brooklyn is completely eliminated. After 12 minutes of play, the Celtics led 46-16. It was the biggest first quarter lead in Celtics history, and the worst second quarter played by the Nets, and you’d be surprised to hear that things didn’t get much better than that. The final humiliation was 139-96.

The Celtics managed to win four quarters despite leading by a lot. No net has scored more than Kyrie Irving’s 20 points. Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 57 on the court in 61 minutes.

Their combined performance made for a bit more history. Both Boston superstars scored at least 25 points, marking the 27th time this season that their teammates have done that many times past the All-Star break. ESPN statistics and information.

The win is the latest in a growing trend between Boston and Brooklyn. In the year The Nets haven’t beaten the Celtics since November 24, 2021. Including the playoffs, the Celtics have now won 10 straight. All three of Boston’s wins this season have come by double digits. Kevin Durant may be out for this, but losing by 43 is ugly no matter who you put on the floor.
