Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green expects to play the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals beginning on June 2, and fans outside of Chase Center immediately bought into the hype that matchup would bring.

TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal prompted this response from Green after the Dubs’ Game 5 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals, which punched the team’s ticket to the final round of the postseason. O’Neal was clear with his question: What team would Green and the Warriors like to play? The Golden State forward was careful at first, using his media savviness to navigate the question neutrally.

“I think both teams are tough,” he began before beginning to compliment Boston.

However, Shaq wasn’t having it, pushing Green with, “How long have we been boys, Draymond? I want an honest answer, Draymond. ”

Green showed off his media training again and spun the question.

“You’re asking me who I want to play, I’m not telling you who I think we’re going to play. We’re going to play Boston, ”Green said.

O’Neal, satisfied with the answer, replied, “That’s the Draymond I know,” before blasting the horn he had been playing with the entirety of the postgame show.

As soon as Green gave his answer, Warriors fans followed their team’s vocal leader into battle with chants of “We want Boston!” This caused many Celtics fans on social media to try and remind Warriors fans what happened the last time a team’s fan base started that chant.

The Nets would go on to lose to the Celtics in four games in the following series.

But maybe this serves as further motivation for the Warriors in a way. Not only has the team’s Big 3 outperformed in the postseason without Kevin Durant, they now have a chance to do another thing he wasn’t able to do: beat Boston in the postseason.
