Caris LeVert’s tough injury history has kept him under the radar, but when healthy he’s one of the top young shooting guards in the league. His ability to score at will is ideal for the Lakers – especially off the bench. He is also a big fan of Lakers superstar LeBron James.
In his career, LeVert averaged 14.4 points per game on 44% shooting from the field. He will average a career-high 21 points per game in 2020 against the Indiana Pacers.
His goalscoring prowess has clearly put him in the conversation among talents off the bench. Pairing him with a pass-happy player like James seems too good to pass up, and the Lakers may have him on their trade radar ( per Hoops Wire ).
So far, everyone from the Pistons to the Hornets to the Clippers and Jazz have shown interest in LeVert. And yes, even the Lakers are poking fun at the idea of a LeVert trade, scouring their rosters for additional help, sources told The Hoops Wire. (In fact, LeVert is said to be a favorite of LeBron James.)
The Lakers want to get younger and the Cleveland Cavaliers need better perimeter shooting. The Lakers have assets they can give up, but when LeVert’s contract expires, they must be prepared to pay them to get value in a potential trade.
With DeMar DeRozan’s links to the Lakers, LeVert offers a similar skill set, and is currently a much cheaper option. However, LeVert’s potential is off the charts, and the Lakers could offer some real value if they want to pursue this trade.
