Is this the end of the Warriors dynasty?

Take a look back at the best plays from Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green as the Warriors were eliminated by the Lakers.

Golden State’s Bob Myers, the two-time executive of the year and architect of four NBA championships with the Warriors, is stepping down as president and general manager of the franchise, he told ESPN on Tuesday.

“It’s time,” Myers told ESPN. Myers, whose contract expires at the end of June, waived ownership rights in a new deal that would make him one of the league’s highest-paid executives. Myers cites several factors besides money as the decision-making process that led him to leave the franchise after 12 years.

Mayer, 48, said he is unsure about his professional future, but if he does decide to return to the team one day, he is expected to become one of the most watched executives in modern North American professional sports history.

Myers’ blend of leadership, talent evaluation and the respect he commands at every level of the industry – ownership, front office, coaches, players and agents – make him a unique ownership group or front office.

Myers is scheduled to speak at a news conference in San Francisco on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

During his dozen years with the Warriors, Myers, who grew up in the Bay Area as a fan of the franchise and went on to play basketball at UCLA, built a Hall of Fame roster. He had strong professional and personal relationships with key members of the Warriors’ dynasty — Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and coach Steve Kerr. In recent days, each has announced the possibility of stepping down, sources said.

With Myers’ departure, Warriors owner Joe Lacob is expected to seek more prominent roles for his son, Kirk, executive vice president of basketball operations, and Mike Dunleavy Jr., vice president of basketball operations.

The Warriors are approaching a difficult crossroads with payroll and the luxury tax without making a tough decision on the futures of key players, including Green and Thompson, in 2023-2024.

Green has a player option on his 2023-2024 contract, and Thompson is entering the final year of his contract. Both players are hoping for lucrative extensions to stay with the Warriors.

The Warriors won four titles in the last eight years before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals this spring. The Warriors reached the NBA Finals six times in Myers’ 11 seasons as GM, losing to Toronto (2019) and Cleveland (2016). Myers took over the Warriors’ pursuit of Kevin Durant, who arrived as a free agent in 2019 and was part of two titles with the Warriors before tearing his Achilles in the 2019 NBA Finals.

He was hired as an assistant GM in 2011 and promoted to GM in 2012, and outside of Curry’s arrival, he has overseen the drafts, trades and signings that have shaped the league’s modern dynasty.
