Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson earned nearly $50 million during his NFL career, and he was lucky enough to hang up his cleats.

The former Cincinnati Bengal said he regularly bought fake jewelry while in the NFL and flew on business to save money.

“Flying private? I’m not private,” he said on Shannon Sharp’s “Club Shay” podcast. “Put me on the Spirit. Get a row. A window seat. That’s all I need. As long as I get from point A to point B. I don’t need private.”

During his playing days, Ochocinco was considered one of the best receivers in the game. His brilliant performances combined with his classics have made him a household name.

That is why it is never caught in excessive purchases.

“If you get to a point in your career where your reputation is worth more than anything you buy, then there’s value,” Johnson said.

“I never bought a real thing when I was playing. Never. What’s the point? I went to Claire’s. Why? What am I doing? The women are going to meet you because of who you are. And then the other women do their homework, Google how much are you making, why am I $50,000 an hour, 80,000?” Do I buy dollars?

“Everybody is caught up in the image and looking a certain way and being rich. I am. It’s meaningless,” he added. “Do you know how hard it is to live like that, flying all the time, constantly and every day?”

Overall, he estimates he saved 83 percent of his income in savings.

Johnson is known for giving four-figure tips for fast food at drive-thru joints.

During his career with Cincy and the New England Patriots, Johnson caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.

He made six Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams, both first team.
