Rodgers is the subject of a league investigation into possible violations of the league’s gambling policy, including possible bets placed on football games. Rogers He acknowledged the situation on social media Monday night, saying he took “full responsibility” for his actions.
Rodgers did not participate in Wednesday’s voluntary practice after being present for previous practices this spring. Coach Shane Stechen declined to comment when asked about his absence, citing the ongoing investigation.
Coincidentally, the Colts hosted an NFL official this week to speak to players about the policy’s restrictions on NFL personnel. Steichen said the visit was scheduled before Monday’s news.
“Educating our players, educating our coaches on the situation is an ongoing process,” Stechen said.
Colts said linebacker EJ Speed has very basic receiving skills.
“What I’ve learned from the whole situation is don’t gamble,” he said. “I think the last meeting made it clear … what you’re allowed to do and what you have to do. I think it’s a tough topic for you to talk about right now because of how sensitive it is around the league. But, right now, I just encourage nobody to gamble.”
Four Detroit Lions players and one Washington Cardinals player were recently suspended by the NFL for gambling violations.
Running back Zach Moss put it bluntly: “If they say don’t do something, then you don’t do it.”
