DeAndre Hopkins is set to take his first step in NFL free agency on Sunday.

In the report Tom Pelissero of NFL mediaHopkins is flying to Nashville this weekend for a free agent visit with the Tennessee Titans.

It will be his first free agent visit since the Arizona Cardinals cut him in May.

Signing with Tennessee also means a reunion for Hopkins with Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who coached him as a member of the Texans’ staff from 2014-2017.

Hopkins was a five-time All-Pro wide receiver overall, playing in just 19 games and receiving fewer receptions than he had in 2020 alone, before getting picked up again in 2021 and 2022.

The Cardinals decided to cut bait with Hopkins after failing to find a trade partner for the prized receiver.

Hopkins has $29,988,890 in 2023 and $25,453,886 in 2024, the final two years of the extension he signed in 2020.

Aside from the financial question, reports surfaced that the Cardinals were upset with Hopkins sitting out the final two games of the 2022 season.

Hopkins listed Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Jalen Harts and Justin Herbert as quarterbacks he would like to play on the “I’m an Athlete” podcast last week.

“What I want is a stable administration,” Hopkins said on the podcast. Coming from Houston and then to Arizona, I think the last couple of years in my career is something I haven’t experienced.

In the year Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who joined the team in 2019 and led Tennessee to three straight playoff appearances before 2022, is known to be on Hopkins’ first wish list of young passers.

They do, however, have second-year QB Malik Willis and 2023 draft pick Will Lewis in the pipeline.

The Titans experienced a change at the general manager position when the team fired John Robinson and hired Ron Carton in January.

Carton is a former player who spent the past six seasons with one of the most successful front offices in football.

He was part of the Rams’ front office, a 49ers team that drafted Aaron Donald and Cooper Cupp, as well as Nick Bosa and Debo Samuels.

It’s unclear whether Hopkins can help the Titans improve on their 7-10 record in 2022, but he would be the first team to land the former All-Pro.
