49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s surgically repaired left knee took a big hit in Sunday’s game, but Garoppolo said there is no doubt he will stay on the field.

Garoppolo took his helmet after throwing a pass from Saints defensive lineman Malcolm Roach and appeared to be in enough pain after the game. In his postgame comments to reporters, Garoppolo said he never intended to walk away because he “knows what kind of game it is” and that the 13-0 win wasn’t the only score he took.

Even though he wasn’t seriously injured, Garoppolo still thought the hit was something that should have been ruled out of the game.

“You have to be smart as players, watch out for each other,” Garoppolo said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “There is no place for that. i’m fine. A little pain but nothing bad.

Garoppolo was 26-of-37 for 222 yards and a touchdown and was a nice addition to a defense that hasn’t allowed a score in the second half of its current four-game hitting streak.
