Report: NFL investigating another Lions player under gambling policy.

Last month, four Lions were suspended for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. Finally there may be a fifth.

According to Kalin Kahler of TheAthletic.com, the NFL is investigating a fifth player for violating its gambling policy.

TheAthletic.com could not name the player because the investigation is ongoing. This is a sharp departure from the various media outlets that regularly report on players experiencing other policy violations before the investigation is complete.

But the player in question “wasn’t a popular member of the 2022 team,” Kahler wrote. He has not yet been interviewed by the league.

The fact that another Lions player is being investigated shows the importance of teams properly educating their players about gambling policies and the dire consequences of such violations. Four players failed in Detroit and another may be joining the list.

Receiver Jameson Williams, who received a six-game suspension Thursday for protesting gambling on team spots, said he was unaware of the policy. The Lions will tell him and his teammates about it. The challenge for them in doing so is getting them to understand that this isn’t basic, boring HR-type seminar material, but a critical aspect of their ability to play NFL football.
