The Denver Broncos (3-7) will be on the road today to take on the Carolina Panthers (3-8). Both teams could not figure out how to win games this year. Denver can’t win a division game and Carolina can’t win a non-division game, so maybe that balance in the Broncos’ favor here in Week 12.

In-game updates

9:30 am The Broncos released their game day inactivity and confirmed that both OLB Jacob Martin and TE/FB Andrew Beck were active today. Some good news is that they still don’t have two starting wide receivers and cornerbacks.

11:35 am. After a disappointing first quarter, the Broncos picked up their final play of the first quarter. This happened after the Panthers drove down the field following a fake punt conversion in a 7-0 win. Full first quarter recap.

11:45 am: The Broncos’ special teams gave up a fake punt conversion but came up with a big play on their next chance with this fumbled punt recovery. The Broncos offense drives inside the 10-yard line, but eventually settles for a field goal to cut the Panthers lead to 7-3.

11:55 am. Since that fake punt, the Broncos defense has started giving up 8 yards per play. Pat Surtain came up big on a third-down pass breakup to set up a field goal on the Panthers’ next drive, but the Broncos’ offense never seemed to score 10, giving them a 10-3 lead.

12:03 PM: Latavius Murray gave the Broncos their first 20+ yard run with this 52-yard scamper, but on the next play Russell Wilson threw his hand. A fumble ensued and the Panthers recovered.

12:25 PM: Denver’s Brandon McManus gets the ball back just enough to have a chance to cut the lead before halftime, but misses a 56-yard field goal. Full second quarter recap.

1:17 PM: This game has become painful to watch as the Broncos offense continues to wreak havoc on the fans. The Panthers added another touchdown and a 17-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Fire Hackett anyone? Complete third quarter recap.

1:23 PM: Carolina got a big play on Pat Surtain when DJ Moore caught a 52 yard bomb from Sam Darnold to set up the Panthers inside the Broncos 10 yard line. The Broncos defense would then wait to force a field goal, but Carolina went up 20-3.

1:27 PM: Jalen Virgil scored the punt return and the Panthers’ fumble ended in a fumble recovery. The ugliness in this game is about to get uglier.

1:32 PM: After that fumble, Mike Purcell chewed out Russell Wilson and the Panthers calmly kicked another field goal to extend their lead to 23-3.

Game preview

For the Broncos, this should come down to Clint Kubiak and Russell Wilson. The offense hasn’t done that once in a game this season, but aspects of their first game together last week suggest we could see things turn a little more aggressive in the coming weeks.

The most concerning issue is the defense that seems to have folded of late against the Las Vegas Raiders. The quarterback hasn’t flexed all season, so it will be important to watch him early in this game against the Panthers. Even if the offense starts to turn things around, a strong defense will be needed.

Kickoff is set for Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina at 11:00 AM ET. You can watch the game live on FuboTV or FOX.

My prediction

In partnership with DraftKings Sportsbook, I’ll be covering all of my picks this year with TallySight. The Broncos are the better team, but they are not acting as one this year. Given that fact, it could go either way here, but I’m sticking with the Broncos on this one.
