The iPhone is about to undergo one of its biggest changes in years, according to a new leak. Next year, for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, Apple is going to change the display size. That’s Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the new Power On Newsletter “Postgame Q&A segment.”
This means that for the first time ever, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have bigger screens in late 2020.
Currently on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max – and certainly the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max – the displays measure 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively.
But next year, it seems that the design of the iPhone will be changed by “two-tenths of an inch diagonally”, so the screen size will increase by 0.2 inches, that is, for the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9 inches to 6.3 inches. On the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
That may not seem like a big change, but Gurman says the phones will have bigger displays than ever seen on an iPhone, and will put them more in the spotlight with companies like Samsung. For example, the Samsung S23 Ultra has a 6.8-inch display.
This is exactly in line with the display volumes of analyst Ross Yang, who considered the same figures in a report earlier this month, while industry heavyweights such as Ming-Chi Kuo from TFI Securities also confirmed.
Surprisingly, this change will not be quantitative. It also provides more room in the phone, for a bigger battery, say, or bigger camera sensors and so on.
In fact, Gurman backed off the claim not long ago, but a report on Chinese website Weibo, spotted by McCrummores. So, it looks like the periscope camera is expected to arrive this fall, but only on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and it could also come to the smaller Pro model next year.
And the larger space means a bigger sensor can fit in, which adds to photography capabilities, especially in low light.
How big is it you ask? It appears to be about an eighth as large (12%).
Although one thing doesn’t change and that’s the size of our hands, it’s all interesting – evolution moves slower when it’s human rather than electronic. So, a larger display, while welcome, still needs to fit into a manageable device, and there’s very little extra screen real estate on the front of the iPhone. Well, we’ll see.
Things have a lot of time to develop before the iPhone 16 Pro is released.
By the way, it seems that these changes are only designed for Pro phones, not the iPhone 16, for example. More like we have.
