There are some fantastic deals on MacBook Airs and Pros coming up on Black Friday, and there may be more on the way. And you don’t have to hesitate to buy.
With the recent news that Apple won’t be releasing any more new Macs until next year, you’ve probably decided to hold off on that Mac purchase. While you can absolutely wait until next year to get a better model, we think Black Friday is a great opportunity to invest in a new Mac. If you’re not sure whether you should buy now or wait until later, here are a few reasons why you should go ahead and invest.
It’s a perfect storm of bargains.
Apple hasn’t released a new Mac since it went on sale in July, so every model is ripe for deep discounts. The older but still excellent M1 Air is currently on sale for $799, while the new M2 Air is $150 off. The 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro are both $500 off. And the Mac Mini is down to $750. Even the 24-inch iMac is $150 off.
To help you with your shopping, we’ve put together some guides to finding the best Black Friday deals. We will keep track of the offers and post them in the articles below.
The waiting game
If you tend to wait, you are waiting for a good time. The speculation is that Apple won’t release a new Mac until March 2023—probably the end of that month. That’s four months longer now (three months if your new Mac purchase is a December holiday gift). That time can wipe out the benefits of the new Mac — the improved speed, the better graphics, the new designs.

Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro (left) and 14-inch MacBook Pro are a big upgrade from the Intel-based MacBook.

When Apple releases the new Macs, they will be sold at their regular prices and you will need to wait several more weeks (or even months) before seeing significant reductions. The Macs that are being replaced may also see reductions, but are you willing to wait and see if the price doesn’t drop any further?
Since Apple updates its products regularly, it’s easy to always have the latest and greatest in the waiting loop. But with a new Mac, you’ll get an immediate benefit, and you’ll get your money back faster with a better experience.

Margin and huge profits
I mentioned the improved processing speed as an immediate benefit, and that’s especially true if you’re upgrading from an Intel-based Mac to a Mac with an M1 or M2 processor. M1’s increase over Intel is more than 30 percent and M2 is likely to be higher.
But the performance improvement from M1 to M2 is relatively low – between 10 and 15 percent. To notice this difference, you need to do some serious calculations. In general usage (web access, productivity functions and common search duties) the difference is hardly noticeable – and this is the biggest improvement we can expect from next year’s updates.

The M2, like the current MacBook Air, offers a slight speed boost over the M1.

If you’re using an Intel Mac and want to wait for the Mac mini M2 versions or the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, you can certainly do that. But unless you’re creating 3D content, making videos, writing apps, or doing other tasks that push the CPU, you’re expecting more performance than you’ll ever know.
No major changes on the way (except one).
If you’ve been waiting to see Apple make design changes to Macs, you’ll be waiting a long time. The iMac, Mac Studio, MacBook Air, and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro designs are just over a year old or less. Apple isn’t replacing those Macs anytime soon. The 13-inch MacBook Pro probably won’t change because Apple is using it to address a certain segment of the market without having to make a big investment in a new device.

Even if the Mac Mini gets a facelift next year, we can’t imagine it will look too different.

Mac mini fans have a more complicated situation. Apple’s $699 and $899 models with the M1 feature the design used since 2010. According to reports, Apple may release the redesigned M2 Mac mini in the spring of 2023, but some rumors also say that the new model could be a high-end one. A replacement for the current $1,099 Intel-based Mac Mini. Also, while the new Mac Mini is smaller than the current model, the current Mac Mini is much smaller to begin with. So unless you want a Mac smaller than the current Mac Mini, there’s no reason to wait.
The only Mac worth waiting for is the new Mac Pro. Apple currently only offers Intel-based models, and when it introduces the M-series Mac Pro, it will likely have a new design. However, the Mac Pro isn’t the kind of product that goes on sale on Black Friday and a consumer who doesn’t wait for a sale buys it because they need the power. right now. So Mac Pro buyers can sit until 2023.
