The long awaited Pixel Remasters Final Fantasy I Through VI It finally arrived on Switch and PlayStation 4 on April 19th. Unfortunately for longtime fans, the physical editions of the set sold out immediately on Square Enix’s website and show no signs of returning to stock. Scalpers are now trying to rip them off by the hundreds on eBay.

of Final fantasy Pixel Remasters came to Steam a few years ago, but console ports include some New features and improvements Not quite as perfect as a new font, but still a significant improvement over the modern look of in-game text on PC. The most important thing for collectors, this time there are physical versions. The $75 Standard Edition has games that include:Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, VAnd VI-and the Annual Edition includes a vinyl soundtrack, art books, pictures and more for $250.

While pre-orders have been available since last December, the release date for the PS4 and Switch versions was only announced earlier this month. On launch day, Square Enix’s website, the only place to order physical copies, was already sold out of the regular edition. Formation editions are currently on a waiting list, meaning new orders are only available if they are cancelled.

Anyone who’s late to the party and still wants to pick up some of the latest all-time classics is now at the mercy of resellers. “This is crazy,” wrote user tuhbreezy696 in a post on A Game collecting subreddit With a screenshot of the manager’s specs on eBay for up to $400.

Scalpers taking to e-commerce platforms with ludicrous listings have become commonplace, but a quick search will reveal dozens and dozens of PS4 and Switch copies of the game, all at or above sticker price. At the time of writing, the lowest price was $175 with 175 views.

The pull of nostalgia is strong, especially for beloved franchises whose stories and art helped define the NES and SNES console generations for millions of gamers. It looks like it’s still possible to order physical copies through Asian retailers like Play Asia, though the cost is still around $100 with shipping. Some fans are reporting an initial shipping date of June for those copies, and that seems to be predicated on additional shipments from Square Enix.

There is little consolation for a long time Final fantasy Fans: Pixel Remasters Not the correct versions. There are debatable merits to the earlier ports on the PSP and Game Boy Advance, and gamers can of course get the newer versions digitally. Still, as we have seen from Metroid Prime Having physical copies, box and cartridges to sell goes a long way to rekindling what felt special about these games in the first place.
