Planning to buy iPhone 14/14 Plus or iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max? Due to minor upgrades and the latter being on order until 2023, with the former being sold at a lower price, you might want to reconsider your plans. And this is the smartphone you should buy…

iPhone 15 Ultra. And there are many reasons for this, both practical and financial. Considering everything we know about Apple’s iPhone 15 plans, let’s break them down.

Long term value

Cost will be the biggest argument against buying the iPhone 15 Ultra for many. At a reasonable price, this is reasonable. Recent leaks claim that Apple’s new flagship ‘Pro Max’ will be up to $200 more expensive than its predecessor, but there are compelling reasons.

First, storage. While the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at 128GB, the entry-level iPhone 15 Ultra is said to have 256GB. That’s currently a $100 option for Pro Max buyers, which means you’ll get half the price increase right away, and don’t forget it’s an additional “up to” $200, so the final price could be lower.

Second, USB-C. If you primarily use MagSafe charging, you may not care about the iPhone 15 range’s well-known Lightning to USB-C exit from a practical standpoint. But you have to pay attention to financial matters. As iPhones transitioned from the previous dock connector to Lightning, second-hand iPhones that used the Dock Connector fell away. It could happen again, making the iPhone 15 a much better long-term investment.

New features

Every iPhone generation brings improvements, but after several more releases, the iPhone 15 Ultra is shaping up to be a seismic leap forward.

Build Quality – Unlike previous iPhones (and other iPhone 15 models that seem to be missing), the iPhone 15 Ultra will have a titanium chassis. Titanium makes the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max 3-4x stronger and 40% the same strength as the stainless steel used in the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max, meaning Apple’s new flagship can be lighter than its predecessors yet still strong. It is also said to be curved for improved ergonomics.

Photography – The front of the iPhone 15 Ultra breaks new ground for the range with dual front cameras. For photography, this improves depth perception and offers a variety of wide angles for enhanced selfies. Enhanced depth mapping for security improves facial recognition security.

Performance – Unlike the regular iPhone 15 models, the iPhone 15 Ultra will receive Apple’s next-generation A17 chip. This will be the first 3-nanometer chip after 5nm variants were used for the A14, A15 and A16. This is bleeding edge technology and allows the 3nm A17 to run faster, cooler and with reduced power draw compared to its predecessors.

This is not the only increase in speed. For more than a decade, the Lightning port on iPhones has been limited to USB 2.0 speeds (480Mbps), but the switch to USB-C will see the iPhone 15 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro support Thunderbolt 4 (40Gbps / 40,000Mbps) for wired data transfer. And backups are almost instantaneous. USB-C is expected to bring faster wired charging speeds.

Why is waiting wise?

So yes, the iPhone 15 Ultra will be expensive. But spread over the course of a typical 3-year carrier contract, the difference in monthly payments will be small (which is why iPhone 14 and 14 Plus sales are struggling). Moreover, Apple seems determined to launch the rebranded ‘UItra’ with a bang, making it the most innovative and future-proof iPhone in years.
