LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAV) – Norton Healthcare announced that it is making changes to its financial assistance program to address the financial stress that keeps people from seeking care.

Changes to the financial aid program will increase the number of individuals eligible for aid.

Previously, a household income equal to or less than 300% of the federal poverty guidelines was required to qualify for financial assistance.

The expansion will now allow up to 350% of households making at or below the federal poverty guidelines to receive assistance, Norton Healthcare said.

He said the health care system allows individuals to pre-apply to the program instead of completing an application after receiving treatment.

Changes have been made to remove barriers when discussing financial issues while receiving care.

“By offering this proactive approach to our financial assistance program, families across the region can put their health first without the burden of financial worries,” said Russell F. People who need care can apply for financial assistance. Anytime online or by requesting a paper copy of the application through Norton Healthcare.

Those who are pre-approved for assistance will receive a confirmation letter, the health care system said, adding that it will continue to help uninsured patients apply for Medicaid through third-party assistance.

Additional resources are also available for individuals excluded from the financial aid program.
