news: Trelleborg showcased innovations in medical device components at MD&M West.

Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical will exhibit advanced polymer solutions for healthcare and medical applications at MD&M West in Anaheim, California, February 7-9, 2023, in booth 2301.

On display, Trelleborg will showcase its thermoplastic injection molding, drug-eluting equipment, tubing, braided tubing, molded parts, multi-part and micromolding offerings, as well as its rapid development capabilities that reduce manufacturers’ time to market. Trelleborg will showcase rubber products from newly acquired Minnesota Rubber & Plastics (MRP) and discuss the synergies and capabilities resulting from this merger.

Linda Murosky, president of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Marketing Americas and Global Healthcare & Medical, said: “Our goal is to bring together two strong companies and leverage the best of both, accelerating production and strengthening R&D as we jointly pursue Trelleborg’s ambition to provide customers with innovative customized solutions. As we combine our teams and capabilities, we invite exhibitors to visit the Minnesota Rubber & Plastics booth and welcome them to the Trelleborg family.

Trelleborg Healthcare and Medical Global Commercial Director Andrew Gaillard said: “Thanks to our acquisitions at the event we will be introducing some enhanced capabilities. Now part of the Trelleborg family, these acquisitions strengthen our ability to collaborate with customers on projects in thermoplastic and rubber injection molding, assembly and packaging.

“Attendees will also learn about our new offering of bioresorbable polymers, which are used for implantable medical devices. They are absorbed into the body after treatment and do not need to be removed, making the treatment less invasive and reducing patient recovery time and hospital stays.”

Attendees can also learn more about Trelleborg’s Rapid Development Center (RDC), which helps customers accelerate their new product development process, reduce production costs and ensure superior product quality.

Chris Tellers, director of RDC, said: “We work in partnership with some of the world’s leading medical device companies to develop solutions across a range of categories including cardiovascular, diabetes and neurology. Since launching RDC in August 2021, we have shipped over 29,000 units and completed 79 devices. We also complete thermoplastic utility projects, supply machine parts when needed, and can turn projects around in days when speed is essential.

Another point of interest is Trelleborg Healthcare & Medical’s selection of special coated tubes and braided tubes. Tubing is available in a full range of sizes and designed with customers to meet their individual application needs.

According to Gaillard: “We create novel solutions for our customers’ unique pipe applications. Examples include multi-lumen, silicone foam extrusion, and kink-resistant tubing for a variety of critical applications, such as pacemaker and neuromodulation leads and urological implants. Our GeotransTM Technology allows the production of extrusion profiles that can be changed in extrusion length, supporting special, customer-specific designs. We are expanding our Northborough, Massachusetts facility to enable flexible manufacturing solutions and increase silicon extrusion and molding capabilities.

Also on display will be molded parts for use with implantable healthcare and medical devices with multi-component and micro-molding capabilities.

“One of our most popular capabilities is liquid silicone rubber (LSR) mixed with plastic,” added Gaillard. Multi-component injection molding, commonly referred to as 2C or 2-shot, allows our LSR experts to employ sophisticated equipment and process engineering to develop innovative solutions that combine two or more materials into one fully bonded and solid component.

Attendees can visit MRP at booth 2827 to learn about the innovations and capabilities the company brings to Trelleborg.
