Twitter user Vikram S Buddhanesan shared an anecdote about his late ‘Amma’. She shared that she learned about the story behind her mother’s “special plate” after her death. The dentist posted an image of the plaque he was talking about in the post. The plate looked like any ordinary steel plate in Indian households until Vikram shared the story behind it.

He revealed that his mother preferred to eat only from this steel plate for almost two decades of her life, and that she would let her or her niece eat on it from their entire family. Vikram revealed that the reason he cherished the plate was because his son had won the plate as a prize as a child and he wanted to honor that memory.

He wrote: “This is Amma’s plate…she has been eating with it for the past 2 decades…it’s a small plate…she only allowed me and Chulbuli (Sruthi, my niece) to eat from this plate apart from her. After his death, only I came to know through my sister that this plate was a prize won by me.”

The plate was a 7th grade award that his mother treasured for two decades

He then added in another tweet: “On my 7th STD, so in 1999. In these 24 years, he had eaten food from this plate that I won… How sweet I know… And he didn’t even tell me this maaaaaa, I miss you, maa”.

People on the internet were excited about the story. One of the users wrote: “So lovely…mamma is always with you…hugs.”

Another added: “It literally makes me cry because now I think of my mother who used to do that. He is no more.”
