Earlier in May, we revealed that Google was planning to announce the Pixel Watch 2 alongside the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro this fall. 9to5Google It can now report some key Pixel Watch 2 specs, including processor, battery and health sensor upgrades.

Pixel Watch 2 chip

According to sources, the Pixel Watch 2 will be powered by the latest “W5” generation Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.

It’s unclear what level of customization, if any, is taking place, but the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 was announced last July and just arrived in the first Wear OS watch we reviewed, the TicWatch Pro 5. There’s also the standard Snapdragon W5 Gen 1, which lacks the Qualcomm co-processor that has so far been used primarily by Chinese wearable makers (Oppo Watch 3).

This 4nm SoC has four A53 cores at 1.7GHz with dual Adreno 702 GPUs (1GHz). In comparison, the original Pixel Clock Exynos 9110 was built with two Cortex-A53s on a 10nm process.

Google’s switch from Samsung’s Exynos for its second-generation wearable is surprising and impressive. Conservatively, we were expecting the 5nm W920 used in the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5. Another option was the rumored W980, which is expected to appear in the Galaxy Watch 6. The Pixel Watch is just one of Google’s product lines, so it’ll be out of date.Think about how the shift in wearables will affect base decisions on the phone side, Tensor features a lot more customization.

The battery on the Pixel Watch 2

The biggest impact of this change, based on what we’re hearing, is vastly improved battery life. While the battery on the Pixel Watch 2 shouldn’t be much bigger than what we have today, Google is looking at more than a day with Always-On Display (AOD) enabled service.

This makes a significant improvement and rapid improvement; The original 24-hour rated AOD is missing. That is, today people can turn on the screen and easily go through a day (but nothing more). If settings are adjusted to save battery, the Pixel Watch 2 can go up to two days without charging, which can be useful when you’re traveling.

The new chipset is no doubt responsible for this boost, but Google teased that Wear OS 4 “features a number of improvements to help your apps run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.” Set to arrive in the fall, the Pixel Watch 2 is believed to be one of the first devices to launch with Wear OS 4.

Fitbit Sensors + Pixel Watch 2

In the latest announcement, we’re hearing that the Pixel Watch 2 has the same health sensors as the Fitbit Sense 2. The most notable features of that Fitbit OS device are the all-day stress management and continuous electrodermal activity (CEDA) sensor. tracking, as well as a skin temperature sensor. Other Fitbit devices measure your nighttime skin temperature with “existing sensors,” but the Sense 2 offers a standalone component, although it doesn’t track your actual temperature.

We expect to see the Pixel Watch 2 announced alongside the Pixel 8 this year.
