A Chesterfield Township mobile home burst into flames Friday morning after a gas line burst near 23 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue.
About 11:30 a.m., a utility crew working in the area of the Carriage Way mobile home park reported they had hit a gas line, causing a leak, Chesterfield Township Public Safety Director Brian Bassett said.
“Soon after the initial call, unfortunately, we were contacted that there was an explosion and one of the houses was completely engulfed in flames,” he said.
Fire crews arrived within three minutes and conducted an initial search inside the home in the 29000 block of Jamestown Drive. The residents were not inside, Bassett said.
“We were able to get the entire fire under control within 10 minutes, and maybe another 10 minutes to shut off the gas line and get the scene under control,” he added.
No injuries were reported. The home suffered “extensive damage,” the public safety director said.
