(Yicai Global) Jan. 30 — Hon Hai Precision Industry, better known as Foxconn, has offered triple wages to workers who returned to the world’s largest iPhone factory in China earlier from the Lunar New Year holiday. , Yicai Global learned from a worker.

To keep up with the production schedule delayed by the Covid-19 epidemic and increase the firm’s leading role in Apple’s industrial chain, Foxconn offered a bonus of CNY 13,000 (US$1,920) to staff who returned to work on January 23 , January 2 days after the start of the week-long Spring Festival holiday, said the worker at the iPhone factory in Zhengzhou, Henan province. The average monthly salary is 5,000 to 6,000 CNY (US$740 to US$885), the person added.

All seven roommates of the worker Yicai Global spoke with returned on January 23 to receive the triple salary.

The manager of the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone, where Foxconn’s factory is located, also offered ‘red package’ gifts of CNY 1,000 to workers at major enterprises such as Foxconn who remained on duty during the holiday, Yicai Global learned.

A Covid-19 outbreak hit Foxconn’s iPhone factory in Zhengzhou in late October last year. In November, Apple announced that production of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would be lower than expected due to disruptions at the Zhengzhou factory.

The US tech giant also trusted other contract manufacturers to assemble some high-end mobile phones to ensure supply, Guo Mingqi, an analyst at Tianfeng International Securities, said in a research report. Apple did not confirm the news, but the idea that it may gradually reduce its dependence on Foxconn began to take root.

“Apple has entrusted our company with assembling mobile phones in past years, but its schedule for this year’s iPhone 15 is uncertain,” the employee told Yicai Global, adding that the iPhone 15 has become a topic of concern among frontline staff.

Henan province is closely watching the cooperation between Foxconn and Apple. Since the company entered Zhengzhou in 2010, it has provided jobs for more than one million people and increased the scale of the local electronics industry to CNY 100 billion ($14.8 billion), accounting for 60 percent of the total import value and export of Henan for years. .
