WhatsApp allows users to edit messages, replicating the feature offered by other messaging apps like Telegram and Signal.

In an update announced Monday, the Meta-owned app said messages could be edited up to 15 minutes after they were sent.

The new feature is expected to roll out to nearly 2 billion WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.

“From simple typo corrections to adding more context to a message, we’re excited to give you more control over your chats,” the company wrote in a blog post Monday.

“All you have to do is long press the sent message for up to fifteen minutes and select ‘Edit’ from the menu,” he added.

Changed messages will appear as “edited”, notifying recipients that a change has been made. But you won’t see how the message was edited.

Several competing messaging apps, such as Signal and Telegram, already offer message editing features. Meanwhile, Twitter offers a 30-minute message editing window for Twitter Blue service subscribers.

Meta, which also owns Facebook and Instagram, has been noted in recent years for its efforts to replicate competing apps — some with more advantages than others.

The company is now said to be preparing to launch its version of Twitter in early June, focusing on “creators and public figures”.
